Fort Hood

Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan gave away bags of frozen broccoli and even a few copies of the Koran as he emptied out his apartment in preparation for deployment, telling one neighbor, “Nice knowing you, old friend. I’m going to miss you.”
Nidal Malik Hasan was a major and a psychologist who treated soilders ready to be deployed
for Iraq and Afghanistan. The shooting took place near an old theatre that was used for briefing on base. We know that at least 13 people where killed and 31 soilders injured , one of the soilders killed was a pregnat female soilder , I would count that as 14 soilders killed. Ironic how it was a psychologist who pulled the trigger. One things that boggles me is they said he had suffered from PTSD which is post tramuatic stress disorder. I am very familar with this disorder, my best friend is diagnosed as having it. Most peole who have this
have been to war. This man was never deployed , they say he was picked on for his ethnicity but that is not enough to trigger PTSD . In order to actually have it you must have had a beyond tramuatic expierence like going to war , getting shot or sometimes abuse as a child or sexual abuse. We know the shooting occured around 1:30, according to Military statements. It's funny the FBI says it
is not terrorist related , yet they spent 6 months looking into his jihad activity.. I wonder why everyone is so PC about
his origin just because he is
a Muslim? Not all
Muslims blow up buildings and open fire on innocent civilians. That is like saying all Christian right wingers blow up abortion clinics. This may have been a terrorist attack , maybe not we do not know all the facts. What I do know is he seems to have been a terrorist sympathizer. The interesting thing is the media remains do PC about this covering up the fact that he was Muslim. Major Hasan was a reassigned from Walter Reed to Darnell Army Medical Center. Can Fort Hood really be boiled down to a simple motive? Deployed to Iraq ? I believe that there are larger social contexts to consider. One thing I have to say is how liberals are jumping to the conclusion that right wing nuts are going to have a field day with this. How can people be so insensitive ? One liberal blogger said he thinks this is a ploy to send more troops to Afghanistan! I mean come on , I never knew libs could be so
heartless! I don't want to
blame the
military , but there way of handling soilders who suffer from disorders such as PTSD is bullshit. They new this man was trying to convert others , they knew he wanted out of being deployed! They knew
he was
making threats. Yet they chose to ignore the obvious. There way of dealing with mental problems is simply
unacceptable. The sad part is the shooter is doing fine, I hope that son of a bitch , gets paralized I hope he
suffers for what he did that horrific day.

My heart and prayers go out to all the victims, their families and friends.

From all the news reports it appears this Major is a career military man and that in his current position for less than a year and was not going well. He did not want to be deployed and in fact wanted out of the Army, so he paid back his military student loans and hired an attorney.

The reason may have been that he was being harassed and called names like “camel jockey ”. I guess all that sensitivity training for those with bigotry tendencies are all for not. (Can training real change the way you were brought up?)

Another reason is called PTSD by proxy, the stress of treating PTSD in other soldiers make you go a little crazy yourself. Its even more stressful because most of the higher ranks don’t even believe in such thing as PTSD. Their denial prompts them to tell suffering soldiers to “drink it off.” Some civilians in the defense dept feel the same way no doubt IMO, it’s why hardly anything is mentioned of PTSD until one of these violent episodes occurs. These people see PTSD as a cop-out or an excuse. First we need to have an understanding that PTSD actually is real before we can ever hope to help treat it (does anyone believe that being shot at or killing your fellow man is not going to affect you in some way either then or in the future?). I guess with the high soldier suicide rate before and after deployment kinda takes care of the complaints from coming in (so those who said he should have just killed himself, well that’s already happening ). What real ticked me off when I heard that the military was trying to say that some soldiers coming back from this war with PTSD or other psychological disorders had “Pre-Existing Conditions” and that the military would not pay to treat them, I think it has been corrected but what a bunch of asses they break you and don’t want to pay.

The final issue is why does the military want to keep people in their ranks that no longer want to be there is it just sheer number? I mean is it ten percent, twenty percent. Is it that it is the only contract in the US that you can’t get out of unless to kill yourself or kill your fellow soldiers? It does not make any sense to me.

I guess the Major could just be another wacko like Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nicholas, of course McVeigh was executed and apparently because Nicholas became a Christian he received a life sentenced. I real think if he gets that far the Major will get the former and not in a million years the latter.

This is so messed up, hopefully they will make some changes that make sense.

Hasan brought some heavy-duty weapons to Ft. Hood. His camo pants were loaded with extra ammo. This was clearly premeditated. He will fry for this. And he should.

But others should be punished, too, included those who promoted Hasan up the chain of command. This PC crap has infiltrated the American military and it's a serious threat to national security.

I am not going to speculate as to the Major's reasoning or what COULD have led him to do what he did...

The facts are what they are and from what I understand, there are still some issues that need some clearing up and the obvious, INVESTIGATING...

My issue is with the notion that Major could not have had suffered from PTSD.

As humans, we have the capacity to have compassion, sympathy, love & hate for others based on who they are, their life story and their circumstances... Such being the case, it is my experience and understanding that a soldier who has never been in combat can very well experience PTSD based on his/her interaction with those who have via one's ability to sympathize ans share common core beliefs about what should and shouldn't take place.

Though soldiers come from all walks of life, each military branch has its own way of breaking a person down and reconstructing that person into a model Airman, Marine, Seaman and Soldier. Via the building back up of this person, CORE military values replace what was once their and so on and so forth.

Now, from what I've seen and understand about those who dibble dabble in the field of Psychology, most are missing a few fruits in their baskets... not that this is an excuse for the Major, however, he obviously wasn't all there...

He took in far too much as a physician. He sympathized way too much with his patients, and it appears to have been too hard for him to separate his call as an officer from his call in reference to his religion.

But hey, in due time & if God willing, we will find out more about this whole situation and have more answers to our questions...
